2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 2: Shooting Stars engage in bragging right fight over Bendel Insurance FC
Posted : 07 October 2023
It's on record that Shooting Stars have never lost a match to Bendel Insurance in the last four years.
The last time Insurance defeated Shooting Stars was in January, 2019, when the Benin Arsenal, courtesy of Charles Omokaro' solitary goal, pipped the Oluyole Warriors 1-0 during the 2017/18 NNL Playoff in Aba.
In the four recent meetings between the two, the Oluyole Warriors have won two, while the spoils were shared twice.
In their last four meetings, Shooting Stars have scored a total of eight (8) goals, while Insurance have scored just four (4) goals.
The 3SC skipper, Malomo Taofeek with three goals, is fast becoming the Benin Arsenal's nemesis, having scored in all their meetings except for the last fixtures in Benin.

The 2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 2 will definitely be a cracker given that it will be the first match for the Benin Arsenals after they lost out 1-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup against RS Berkane after the first leg had ended 2-2 with the aggregate scoreline at 2-3.
Judging from last season's NPFL Abridged league, the Monday Odigie-tutored Benin Arsenals maintained an impressive record of 18 unbeaten streak a national record.
For this new season, Bendel Insurance have yet to taste the league match courtesy continental fixtures assignment, so, the match against RS Berkane which means Shooting Stars fixtures will be their first domestic appearance.
The Gbenga Ogunbote lads on the other hand will fancy a repeat of last season's away draw against Bendel Insurance which they drew 1-1 while the reverse fixtures also ended 2-2; however, buoyed by their convincing league opener in which the Oluyole Warriors cooly dispatched arch rival Plateau United FC 2-1 in the Match Day 1 the next match should give a bit of confidence.
The Head Coach, Bendel Insurance on the match against Shooting Stars had said that his attention would now be shifted to the domestic league.
``Its a painful loss for us in Morocco, but that's football, now we need to focus on domestic league with our first match against Shooting Stars FC,'' he said.
Shooting Stars of Ibadan are on three points with one win while Bendel Insurance sits 10th on the table without a match yet.
