2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 2: Enyimba FC Int'l FC faces uphill task against wounded Gombe United

The Finidi George-led 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional League Champions, Enyimba International FC having escaped what could have been a bloody battle for the league opener against Bendel Insurance the current unbeaten king in Nigeria's domestic football save the later's continental assignment.

Now, the Peoples Elephant will be hoping to begin their title defence with a massive three points away at the Pantami Stadium, against the home-side, Gombe United who are battered by the league debutant, Sporting Lagos FC.

On the record, the 9-times league champions, Enyimba International FC impose a bragging right over the Jewels of Savannah having only lost one of their four meetings against them in an away match. 

The only time Enyimba International FC suffered a defeat against Gombe United was during the 2013/14 season, were they lost 2-1.

The NPFL champions have not lost to Gombe United in their previous three meetings starting from the 2016/17 NPFL season, at the Pantami Stadium. 

On what to expect from Gombe United, a midfielder, Barry Legbara was upbeat about his team's chances against the arguably the most successful team in Nigeria.

Legbara said he was sure of victory and confident ahead of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Matchday 2 encounter, against Enyimba FC on Sunday.

The encounter which will take place at the Pantami Stadium, will see the Baba Ganaru led side with a hope of bouncing back from their Matchday 1 defeat to Sporting Lagos. 

Legbara expressed his confident that Gombe United will secure a positive result against Enyimba on Sunday. 

" Yes, it is always a tough game against Enyimba, because they are one of the best team in the league, if not the best.

" Our preparation is high because we know that our opponent are a good side, so we are going to step up our game."

The former MFM FC and Lobi Stars playmaker also revealed that the team felt really sad and depressed after their 2-0 loss to Sporting in Lagos.
