In a quest for better stability, Enyimba International FC put the unfortunate midweek loss to Remo Stars at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba behind them and secured a lone-goal victory over Sunshine Stars of Akure on Saturday.
Chijoke Mbaoma came to the rescue of the Finidi George-tutored boys from the penalty spot in the 45th minute.
In a match thoroughly dominated by Enyimba, with numerous scoring chances, they couldn't find the cutting edge until Chijioke Mbaoma stepped up in the 45th minute to convert the resultant penalty after Love Isaac brought down George Owen in the box.
Perhaps another setback for the Finidi George-tutored side was an injury to Uwana Asuquo, who was substituted due to a knock and replaced with Innocent Gabriel.
Nine-time champions, Enyimba, could have taken the lead in the 16th minute when Atule's cross reached Nnachi at the far post, but his contact ended up in the side-netting.
Reacting to the win, Finidi George said there was nothing wrong with the club but a temporary dip in form.
"We are fine as a team; it is true we have some challenges, but we will overcome them. The mentality is still there, and this win means a lot to us as a team," he said.
With the win over Sunshine Stars, Enyimba International FC rises to the 4th position on the log, behind Remo Stars, who have a game in hand. The Peoples Elephant now has 19 points with six wins, one draw, and four losses.
