After a poor display over 90 minutes, Edo Queens dropped points for the first time at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in the 2023/24 Nigeria Women's Football League Premiership season against visiting Bayelsa Queens.
The first half saw a couple of clear-cut chances missed by Edo Queens, as the team’s profligacy in attack led to misfiring.
Frustrated by the misfiring, Coach Moses Aduku introduced Abibat Agbaji in place of Glory Osaghae to add to his attacking strength. However, the Benin-based team found it hard to score.
Going into the second half, Edo Queens applied more pressure on Bayelsa Queens, but the goals were not forthcoming. Peace Anthony, AbdulRasheed Mariam, and Eunice Godwin replaced Kafayat Mafisere, Osigwe Goodness, and Aweda Titilayo, yet no goal.
Edo Queens came close to scoring but were denied by the crossbar as Suliat Abideen’s free-kick could not end at the back of the net.
An attempt to score the rebound was missed by Agbaji and Goodness as miscommunication saw both of them attempt a kick at the same time, and none could get a foot on it.
With less than two minutes of additional time left, Chinyere Igbomalu struck a long-range effort that was parried away by Ijeoma Uzoma and denied by the crossbar.
Despite the efforts of Edo Queens to get a goal throughout the game, it all resulted in nothing as Onyinye Okeke denied all attempts.
Edo Queens will next face Robo Queens in Lagos on matchday 9 of the NWFL Premiership.
