2022/2023 NPFL Super 6 Playoffs Match Day 2: Bendel Insurance walks on tight rope inspite of 20 match unbeaten streak

Posted : 06 June 2023
If Bendel Insurance wants to take anything away from the ongoing 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super League, then, the club desperately needs to get back to the winning ways as two draws in a tightly contested competition might ruin their chances.

Bendel Insurance FC were on Monday, June 5 again forced to 1-1 draw by Sunshine Stars of Akure in the Match Day 2 of the ongoing 2022/23 NPFL Super 6 playoffs in Lagos.

Divine Nwachukwu struck in the 7th minute of play to put Insurance FC in front. It was the star Midfielder's second goal of the season.

The Benin Arsenals, despite their early lead, still looked ambitious and thirsty for more goals as they continued to dominate play with Imade Osarenkhoe, Sarki and Divine Nwachukwu partnership threatening the Owena Wales area until the end of the half.

On resumption of the second half, both sides' coaches, Monday Odigie and Edith Agoye made quick substitutions to strengthen their sides but the high tempo game remained balanced.

The Edith Agoye's side came back into the game with Ekerette Udom's  goal which came in the 63rd minute following a goal mouth scramble.

All efforts by both sides to get maximum three points did not materialised as they share the spoils, leaving Insurance FC with just two points from two matches.

The Benin Arsenals have now extended their unbeaten run to 20 in the current football season to set a new record.

Insurance FC and Lobi stars settled for a goalless draw on Match Day 1  fixture at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos.

Insurance FC equalled Akwa Utd 18 matches unbeaten record when they were forced to a 1-1 draw at relegated Nasarawa Utd on the last day of the regular season at the New Jos Stadium in Plateau state, and set a new record of 19 matches unbeaten run with Lobi Stars goalless draw

Insurance FC are facing Enyimba FC again on Wednesday, June 7.

Kick off time is 2:00 p.m at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium.

The Benin Arsenals had defeated Enyimba FC 1-0 in Benin and ran away with 1-1 in the revised fixture in Aba in the regular abridged league season, and finished as group A leaders with 34 points without losing any match and have also won all their FA cup matches to reach the final with Rangers International.

For a team chasing domestic double, a draw against Enyimba International FC or a loss will have the Benin Arsenals out of the equations of winning the 2022/2023 NPFL crown as Enyimba FC would have gained five points, having amassed four points already with a draw against Remo Stars and a win over Lobi Stars in the Match Day 2.

A win over Monday Osagie-led Insurance automatically puts Enyimba in a pole position to be considered as winners because they will be on seven points.

However a win for Bendel Insurance over Enyimba will have them amass six points, while a draw means they will only be left with four points, which is not good enough.
