Posted : 15 August 2023
As the much-anticipated Nigeria National League (NNL) playoffs ends in Kano, 12 teams have now been confirmed to play the next season's football actions in Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO)

The NNL Relegation playoffs with eight team tourney was kicked off on Monday, Aug. 6, as all the teams battle for survival to retain their NNL status, which can only accommodate four slots.

The teams had initially raised an eyebrow over the health risk and the choice of Kano as preferred venue for the competition.

However, the management of NNL sticked to the Kano centre to conclude the 2023 season.

At the end of the classic battle, four teams retained their status, while 12 teams dropped to the third tier of Nigerian league, NLO.

It was Sokoto United FC that led all the way as Adamawa United claimed the second ticket from the Northern Conference after piping Sokoto United 1-0 to garner five points from a possible nine, on the final day.

Sokoto United FC before the last games had clinched the first ticket after two games with six points.

FWC Champions defeated ABS FC of Ilorin,2-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, to earn four points, leaving ABS FC to finish the last fixtures with one point only as both teams dropped off to the NLO.

In the Southern Conference, Ikorodu City and Smart City, both of Lagos kept their NNL status intact.

Smart City FC humbled Henserd FC 2-1 to gain 6 points in a last game decided at the Mahaha Stadium while Ikorodu City drew 1-1 with Edel FC to finish on the tame four points but scaled through on a superior plus two goals difference.

Edel FC ended in 3rd place while the efforts from Henserd left them bottom of the log as both teams relegated to the NLO.

This makes a total of  12 teams that  dropped  to  the Nation-Wide League One (NLO)

The clubs are Kogi United, Green Berets, Police Machine FHQ, Ibom Youths; FC Ebed, Joy Comeths, Go-Round FC, and Zamfara United.

Others are -ABS FC, Edel FC, FEdel FC, FWC Champions, and Henserd FC.
