Zeynep Gencaga Dechelotte, the former Senior Esports Director at Ubisoft, has joined the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as its new Esports Associate Director, a role she officially began in November 2024.
In her new position, Dechelotte will lead the IOC's efforts to develop esports in alignment with the Olympic Agenda 2020+5, which emphasizes solidarity and the growth of digitalization across societies. She will also oversee the planning and review of the Olympic Esports Games, scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2025.
Dechelotte brings extensive experience from her time in the gaming, esports, and football industries. Prior to her esports career, she worked as a Special Projects Officer at Galatasaray Football Club in 2010.
Over the past few years, she held key roles at Riot Games and Ubisoft, including serving as Ubisoft's Senior Esports Director in 2022. Her experience in both gaming and esports has positioned her as a leading figure in the field, with a deep understanding of the industry's growth and potential.
In addition to her new role, Dechelotte has been a member of the IOC Esports Commission since its formation in 2023. The Commission includes notable figures from the esports industry, such as G2 Esports CEO Alban Dechelotte and TikTok’s Harish Sarma.
The inaugural Olympic Esports Games will take place in Saudi Arabia for the next 12 years, offering a unique approach to financing and organization compared to the traditional Olympics. The IOC has expressed confidence that Dechelotte's expertise will be invaluable as she drives forward the IOC's esports initiatives.
