VCT Game Changers Championship 2024 Sets New Viewership Records

The recently concluded VCT Game Changers Championship 2024 marked a significant milestone in esports viewership, attracting over 460,000 peak viewers and setting a new record for the most-watched Game Changers event. The tournament, dedicated exclusively to women and marginalized genders, also garnered an impressive average viewership of nearly 123,000 viewers, according to data from Esports Charts.

 

Held at the Riot Games Arena in Berlin, Germany, the 2024 championship featured 10 teams and delivered a peak concurrent audience of 460,297, along with an average minute audience of 122,950. This surpassed the 2023 Game Changers Championship, solidifying its place as the most popular event of its kind to date. In terms of overall women’s esports tournaments, it now ranks as the second most-watched, following only the Women's Tournament in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang at the 32nd SEA Games in May 2023.

 

The VCT Game Changers Championship 2024 was also one of the top VALORANT events of the year, ranking eighth in terms of viewership for the title. It outperformed other major events such as the EMEA Kickoff and VCT Americas Stage 2. The tournament accumulated 6.25 million hours watched across 50 hours of broadcast, with MIBR leading the way in hours watched at 2.9 million, despite finishing as runners-up to Shopify Rebellion in the final. G2 Gozen, another popular team, secured third place with 1.8 million hours watched.

 

The Game Changers series, which provides a safe and competitive space for women and marginalized genders in esports, has grown significantly since its inception. Riot Games has announced plans to further expand its impact, with improvements aimed at creating a clearer path from Game Changers to professional levels like Challengers, enhancing opportunities for non-male players to thrive in the competitive esports scene.
