Valve announces The International event for Dota 2 in Seattle
Posted : 09 May 2023
The site of The International event for Dota 2 has been revealed by game creator Valve.
The 13th iteration of The International will take place in Seattle, and Valve has stated that it anticipates the tournament to draw "the greatest viewership in the event's history."
On October 14, the International 2023 will begin. The group stage and playoffs of the competition will both be covered under the The Road to the International label. In the upcoming weeks, Valve will reportedly provide additional details about The Road to the International.
Dota 2 is returning to Seattle for the first time since 2017. From 2014 to 2017, the International was hosted in the KeyArena, now known as the Climate Pledge Arena.
One of the most popular MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arcade) in the world, Dota 2, is still going strong. The DreamLeague made a comeback on ESL Gaming's updated Dota 2 ESL Pro Tour circuit, which was announced in March.
The prize pools at The International are frequently among the biggest in esports. In 2021, 18 teams competed for a prize fund of $40.01 million (£31.7 million), with the victor taking home $18.2 million (£14.4 million).
The International in 2022 garnered the third-highest viewership in Dota 2 history. 1.7 million people watched the final match between Team Secret and Tundra Esports at the event's height.
The International 10 attracted 2.7 million people during the final, which Team Spirit won. This was the show's all-time peak audience.
