Team Liquid, the multinational esports organization, has entered into a strategic partnership with Wildcard, a collectible card-based multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game set for release in 2025. As part of the collaboration, Team Liquid players, including former League of Legends professionals Samson "Lourlo" Jackson and Bo Yuan "bobqin" Qin, have actively contributed to the game’s development by working closely with Wildcard’s creators in bi-weekly sessions aimed at refining gameplay balance and mechanics. The duo is also expected to promote the game through their personal streaming channels and in-person appearances.
Bo Kryne, Team Liquid’s Vice President of Product, praised the partnership, noting that Wildcard has evolved significantly since its early stages and credits the development team’s dedication for the game’s progress. The game, which revolves around players building decks of cards with various abilities in a 2v2 PvP setup, challenges participants to destroy their opponents' goal, blending strategic depth with engaging, real-time action. Kryne emphasized Team Liquid’s enthusiasm in supporting a game that merges innovation with competitive potential.
The Wildcard Alliance, developers of the game, believe this collaboration could help position Wildcard as a notable contender in the esports arena. Katy Drake Bettner, co-CEO of The Wildcard Alliance, highlighted the early backing from Team Liquid as a strong indicator of the game’s promise. This partnership comes during a period of growth for Team Liquid, which in 2025 has also ventured into chess by signing world champion Magnus Carlsen and re-entered Overwatch esports after a seven-year break.
