Ruud Gullit Named Ambassador for eChampions League 2024 by EA SPORTS FC Pro

Posted : 07 May 2024

EA SPORTS FC Pro has enlisted Dutch football icon Ruud Gullit as an Ambassador for the upcoming eChampions League 2024. Gullit's role will culminate in him presenting the coveted eChampions League trophy to the winner during the finals at Magazine London on May 29th.

Renowned for his illustrious football career, which included winning two European Cups with AC Milan and the 1987 Ballon d’Or award, Gullit's involvement marks a significant crossover between traditional football and esports.

Transitioning from the pitch to the virtual arena, Gullit has demonstrated a keen interest in esports since his retirement from professional football. In 2018, he founded his own EA SPORTS FC academy, Team Gullit, and has actively participated in esports events, including Esports Insider’s ESI Super Forum as a keynote speaker.

As an ambassador for the eChampions League, Gullit's presence adds prestige and authenticity to the competition, bridging the gap between real-world football legends and the growing world of esports.

The eChampions League, an EA SPORTS FC circuit inspired by the esteemed UEFA Champions League, draws top European players from various football clubs to compete in virtual matches. With the 2024 Finals boasting a three-day event and a substantial $280,000 prize pool, the tournament continues to gain traction, attracting a peak viewership of 49,587 during last year's finals.

As EA SPORTS FC remains committed to enhancing its competitive scene, partnerships with production agencies like Whisper and the introduction of new competitions, including its participation in the Esports World Cup, underscore the game's evolving presence in the esports landscape.
