Riot Games unveils fighting game '2XKO' release in 2025 with Tag Team Mechanics

Posted : 26 February 2024

Riot Games has unveiled details about its highly-anticipated fighting game, now officially named 2XKO, set for release in 2025 on platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X.

Formerly codenamed Project L, the game features a tag team system with players controlling a main character, Point, and a supporting character, Assist.

Playtests and public presentations are scheduled throughout 2024, with the first large demo at EVO Japan in April, emphasizing Riot's commitment to grassroots esports and community feedback.

2XKO, developed by Radiant Entertainment, acquired by Riot Games in 2016, has been a subject of anticipation since its official revelation as Project L in November 2021.

Executive Producer Tom Cannon revealed the 2025 release window in a blog post, emphasizing increased playtests and content sharing in 2024 through social media. The game's tag team mechanics and unique characters aim to set it apart in the fighting game genre.

Despite recent layoffs at Riot Games affecting various departments, including Legends of Runeterra and Riot Forge, 2XKO's development remains unaffected.

The company is actively engaging with the community, encouraging players to provide feedback and sign up for at-home playtesting through the official website. The game's focus on grassroots esports and its presence at events worldwide, starting with EVO Japan, underlines Riot's commitment to building a thriving gaming community around 2XKO.
