In a significant update for the League of Legends (LoL) community, Riot Games has revealed key developments for the 2024 season. The Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is set to take place in Chengdu, China, marking the first time the city hosts this event.
This follows Chengdu's recent hosting of various esports championships, including the Honor of Kings International Championship 2023 Finals and the Naraka Bladepoint World Championship. China has previously hosted two MSI events, establishing its significance in the LoL competitive landscape.
London, England, has already been announced as the location for the League of Legends World Championship Finals 2024. Now, the other stages' locations have been disclosed: the Swiss Stage and Play-ins will unfold at Riot Games Arena in Berlin, Germany, while the semi-finals and quarter-finals are scheduled for the Adidas Arena in Paris, France.
Riot Games has also introduced the 'Hall of Legends,' a new initiative celebrating individuals who have made a significant impact in the League of Legends scene. The first inductee, to be announced this year, will be chosen by an independent voting panel consisting of esports industry veterans.
Additionally, Riot Games has implemented competitive changes to MSI, ensuring the winner secures a spot at Worlds 2024, adding an extra qualification spot for their region.
The second-best performing region will earn a fourth-seed spot for their league, altering the starting qualification places for Riot Games' four major leagues (LEC, LCK, LPL, LCS) in the 2024 season. MSI is scheduled for May 1st-19th, while the League of Legends World Championship will take place from September 25th to November 2nd.
