Riot Games partners with GGTech Entertainment for North American collegiate ecosystem

Posted : 20 July 2023
Riot Games, the developer behind League of Legends and VALORANT, has recently announced a major three-year partnership with esports company GGTech Entertainment for its North American collegiate ecosystem. This partnership makes GGTech the official provider for Riot Games' North American collegiate program, covering both the College League of Legends and College VALORANT competitive seasons.

League of Legends has been a prominent presence in college esports since 2015, with the North American Collegiate Championship (NACC) being introduced. In 2018, College League of Legends (CLOL) further bolstered the scene's popularity as more universities joined in. The 2023 CLOL Championship featured 32 qualifying teams competing for a substantial $190,000 prize pool.

College VALORANT made its debut earlier this year, also organized by the Riot Scholastic Association of America in collaboration with third-party operators. The new three-year partnership with GGTech aims to streamline and enhance college activations across CLOL, College VALORANT, the college club program, and other initiatives.

However, Riot Games clarified that this partnership will not bring changes to their current scholastic community competition guidelines for League of Legends or VALORANT.

They want to continue enabling third-party engagement in the scholastic space. In June 2022, Riot Games had updated their community guidelines to allow all third parties to host collegiate tournaments in their games, ending an unpopular exclusivity deal with high school esports platform PlayVS.
