Riot Games has revealed that the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) will take place in Chengdu, China, hosted at the Chengdu Financial City Performing Arts Centre from May 1st to 9th.
While China has previously hosted MSI three times, this marks the first time Chengdu will serve as the event's venue, offering teams the opportunity to compete in front of fans at every stage, a rarity among tier-one esports tournaments.
Ahead of MSI Chengdu 2024, Riot Games announced significant format adjustments, notably ensuring that the tournament winner secures a spot at Worlds, providing an extra seed for the victor's region. Additionally, the second-best performing region at MSI will also earn an additional slot for their region at Worlds.
Compared to the previous year's MSI held in London, which accommodated 13 teams, this year's event will feature 12 teams, comprising two representatives each from the LPL, LCK, LCS, and LEC, along with one team from the LLA, CBLOL, PCS, and VCS.
Tickets for MSI Chengdu are slated to go on sale from April 2nd, allowing fans to witness the intense competition as the second seeds from LPL, LCK, LCS, and LEC vie against teams from other regions in two best-of-three double-elimination brackets.
The winners and runners-up from each bracket will progress to the next stage, where they will join the remaining four teams in a single best-of-five double-elimination bracket, culminating in the Grand Final.
