Record-breaking viewership marks success of Call of Duty League 2024 stage 1 major

Posted : 31 January 2024

The recently concluded Call of Duty League 2024 Stage 1 Major achieved remarkable viewership, becoming the most-watched Stage 1 Major in the history of the league. Esports data platform Esports Charts reported that over 245,000 viewers tuned in, making it the eighth most-watched event in Call of Duty League history.

This major tournament, held at the MGM Music Hall in Boston, marked the first edition of the season and was jointly organized by the CDL franchise Boston Breach and game developers Activision Blizzard.

Toronto Ultra, owned by OverActive Media, emerged victorious in the grand finals by defeating Atlanta FaZe. Notably, FaZe stood out as the most-watched team during the tournament, accumulating 1.3 million total hours watched. In contrast, the winning team secured the fourth position in this metric, with just under 850,000 hours watched on their matches.

The Call of Duty League Stage 1 Major averaged 123,000 viewers, amassing nearly 4 million hours watched over its 32 hours of air time. This exceptional performance makes it the most-watched Stage 1 Major in the history of the Call of Duty League. Compared to the 2023 edition, this year's event witnessed an increase of around 100,000 peak viewers and approximately 10,000 more average viewers.

Impressively, the viewership numbers outperformed the 2023 Stage 5 Major and the Call of Duty World League Championship 2019, as well as most 'stage' events in the Call of Duty League calendar. It is worth noting that the 2024 Stage 1 Major's success is even more significant considering that the Call of Duty League is now exclusively broadcast on YouTube, eliminating Twitch viewership.

Looking ahead, the next Call of Duty Major is scheduled to take place during the GAMERGY esports and gaming festival in March 2024, hosted by the Florida-based organization Miami Heretics.
