The PUBG Nations Cup 2024 reached a peak viewership of 404,725, making it the third-most-watched event in the game’s history. According to data from Esports Charts, the tournament also attracted an average of 183,400 viewers and amassed nearly 2.8 million watch hours over its 15-hour runtime. The high engagement underscores the event's growing popularity within the esports scene.
The tournament follows a format where top players are selected by their peers to represent their countries in competitive PUBG matches. KRAFTON, the game’s developer, brought back the Nations Cup in 2022 after a two-year break. This year's event, held from September 6th to 8th in Seoul, South Korea, featured 16 countries battling for a $300,000 prize pool. South Korea emerged victorious for the second year in a row, with the Grand Final against the United States being the most-watched match of the tournament.
Compared to the previous year, the 2024 Nations Cup saw a significant increase in peak viewership, drawing about 140,000 more viewers than in 2023. This surge in audience numbers makes it the second-most-popular Nations Cup, only trailing the 2019 edition, which reached 492,700 peak viewers. Interestingly, while South Korea dominated the competition, the highest number of viewers tuned in to the Vietnamese broadcast, which peaked at 146,550 viewers.
Most PUBG fans followed the tournament on YouTube, where it reached 210,326 peak viewers, while platforms like Twitch and Afreeca TV saw lower engagement with 70,464 and 45,356 peak viewers, respectively. As the Nations Cup wraps up, attention now shifts to the PUBG Global Championship in Kuala Lumpur, set to begin on December 9th, with a prize pool of $1.5 million. Last year’s edition featured sponsorships from AndaSeat and MSI, adding further prestige to the event.
