Olympic Esports Series: Fortnite's shooting competition has been added to the opening match
Posted : 05 May 2023
The first Olympic Esports Series will feature a shooting event developed for the video game Fortnite.
The International Shooting Sport Federation has created a virtual island for the competition in the online game.
Twelve players from the Fortnite Champion Series, an online knockout competition comprising some of the finest players in the game, will participate in it.
Singapore will host the Olympic Esports Series from June 22 to June 25.
The International Olympic Committee, which also organizes the Youth Olympic Games, will be in charge of running it.
Just like sport shooters would in a real-world competition, participants in the shooting event will be evaluated on how accurately they aim at targets.
The other esports, which use games like Gran Turismo 7 and Just Dance, include baseball, chess, sailing, taekwondo, tennis, cycling, racing, dance sport, and sailing.
More than 400 million people worldwide play Fortnite, a battle royale game that shot to fame following its 2017 release.
Although the game may normally be downloaded for free, it is funded through in-game sales of things like costumes and dance techniques.
