Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Announced as Main Esports Title for 2025 SEA Games

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) has been confirmed as the headline esports title for the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, set to take place in Thailand. This marks the fourth consecutive appearance of MLBB as a medalled event in the biennial games, with both men’s and women’s tournaments included. The SEA Games will celebrate its 33rd edition in December 2025, spanning multiple host cities such as Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla.

 

Since esports was introduced to the SEA Games in 2019, it has gained significant momentum, with the 2023 event featuring six titles, including MLBB, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and VALORANT. The full list of esports titles for the 2025 edition has yet to be announced. MLBB has achieved substantial viewership milestones in the SEA Games, reaching a combined peak audience of over 2.8 million during the 2023 competitions, a testament to its popularity across Southeast Asia.

 

In line with MLBB’s inclusion, its developer, MOONTON Games, has partnered with the Thailand E-Sports Federation (TESF) to enhance economic and tourism opportunities through esports. This partnership aims to boost esports’ impact in Thailand via community engagement, marketing efforts, and data sharing. TESF, founded in 2013, serves as the main regulatory body for esports in Thailand, recognized by both the Sports Authority of Thailand and the International Esports Federation (IESF).

 

MOONTON’s Head of Esports Ecosystem, Ray Ng, expressed optimism about esports’ growing recognition in the sporting world, highlighting the SEA Games as a crucial platform for athletes and organizations to showcase their talent on a global stage. He emphasized MLBB’s role in promoting inclusivity within esports, creating a space where players from across the region can compete and represent their nations with pride.
