American rock band Linkin Park has been confirmed to perform the official anthem for the 2024 League of Legends World Championship. This announcement was made by game developer Riot Games, following a period of speculation about the band's involvement in the event.
Linkin Park, known for hits like "In the End" and "Numb," returned from a seven-year hiatus after the passing of their former frontman, Chester Bennington, in 2017. With new lead singer Emily Armstrong, the band has sparked interest through social media interactions, including comments from official LoLEsports accounts featuring a golden crown emoji, hinting at their upcoming collaboration.
Further fueling speculation, the tracklist for Linkin Park's forthcoming album, "From Zero," includes a song titled "Heavy Is the Crown," which seemed to connect to the crown imagery used in promotional materials for the World Championships. Now confirmed, the anthem will be released on Wednesday, October 25, at 4:00 a.m. BST, and will be prominently featured throughout the tournament, culminating in a live performance during the grand final.
Linkin Park joins a roster of previous artists who have performed World Championship anthems, including Lil Nas X, Imagine Dragons, and K-pop group NewJeans. This year’s final will be held at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday, November 2. In addition to the anthem announcement, Riot Games has introduced a new global power rankings system in partnership with Amazon Web Services to assess all partnered League of Legends teams and has outlined changes to the game's ecosystem, including updates to the tier-two Americas system and plans to revamp the Oceania circuit.
