In a significant development for the esports community, the Global Esports Federation (GEF) has revealed that Lima, Peru, will host its prestigious flagship event, the Global Esports Games, in 2025. This announcement heralds the commencement of a multi-year partnership between the GEF and the city of Lima, solidifying their commitment to advancing esports on a global scale.
The formalization of this partnership took place in Lima, where GEF CEO Paul J. Foster and Asociación Deportiva Peruana de Esports (ADPES) President Diego Mohme signed the agreement. Notable figures from Lima, including Matsuda Matayoshi, Executive President of the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ), were also present at the ceremony, underscoring the city's enthusiasm for this collaboration.
As part of the agreement, Lima will host the annual stages of GEF’s pro-series, the Global Esports Tour (GET), from 2024 to 2028. The inaugural GET event in Peru is scheduled for November, featuring teams from across the globe competing in Dota 2. This initiative aims to further elevate Peru's prominence in the esports landscape and provide a platform for international competition.
