Level Infinite, the video game developer, has revealed plans for an impressive $3 million tournament to be held at the Esports World Cup featuring the popular mobile MOBA game, Honor of Kings. This Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason event will showcase 12 teams vying for a portion of the prize pool and a chance to advance to the International Championship later in the year.
In addition to the tournament, an exclusive in-game skin collaboration between the Esports World Cup and Honor of Kings is set to excite players as they vie for this special offering. The first invited team to the Invitational Midseason is the Chinese Honor of Kings roster known as KPL Dream Team, comprising top players from China’s King Pro League, the franchised tier-one competition within Honor of Kings.
The announcement aligns with Level Infinite's and Tencent's strategy to elevate Honor of King's esports ecosystem in 2024, marked by significant upgrades to the esports circuit and a substantial $15 million investment to expand the game globally. However, the Esports World Cup, backed by the Saudi Arabian government, has faced criticism from some sectors of the esports community, raising concerns about Saudi Arabia's human rights record and its motives in the esports realm.
James Yang, Senior Director of Level Infinite Global Esports Center at Tencent Games, expressed enthusiasm about the Esports World Cup, emphasizing its potential to elevate the global recognition of Honor of Kings and reinforce their commitment to mobile esports. This move reflects their dedication to fostering growth and innovation within the esports landscape.
