Riot Games has officially announced that the 2025 League of Legends World Championship will take place in China. This exciting revelation was made during a sponsorship extension announcement with smartphone manufacturer OPPO, highlighting the continued partnership between the two companies.
This upcoming championship will mark the third occasion that China hosts the League of Legends World Championship. The 2017 event was a grand affair, spread across four cities—Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing—with the grand final held at the iconic Bird’s Nest arena. In 2020, the event was more subdued, taking place solely in Shanghai amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this year, the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), another major League of Legends event, was successfully held in Chengdu, China.
While Riot Games has confirmed the location for the 2025 tournament, the specific host cities are yet to be announced and will be revealed at a later date. The news regarding the championship's location was shared during a launch event for the OPPO Find X8 series of smartphones in Chengdu, where the partnership extension was also highlighted.
The collaboration between Riot Games and OPPO, which began in 2019, ensures that OPPO will continue as a global partner for both the World Championship and the MSI MVP awards. The brand will maintain a strong presence throughout the events’ broadcasts. Currently, the 2024 World Championship is being hosted in Europe, with semi-finals scheduled in Paris and the grand final set for the O2 Arena in London, featuring an official anthem performed by American rock band Linkin Park.
