INDYCAR champion Tony Kanaan launches sim racing center in Indianapolis, blending racing heritage with Esports

Posted : 04 October 2023

Tony Kanaan, the accomplished racing driver and INDYCAR champion, has inaugurated a private sim racing center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This newly opened venue, which welcomed visitors on September 30th, aims to bridge the gap between the city's rich racing heritage and the world of esports through sim racing events and memorabilia.

Kanaan's sim racing center seeks to capitalize on Indianapolis' racing history by promoting the realm of simulator racing. Additionally, it aims to raise awareness and accessibility for esports, particularly among the city's youth.

The center boasts four racing simulator bays and will host endurance iRacing events as well as private sim parties. It is equipped with state-of-the-art sim racing equipment, features Kanaan's racing memorabilia, and even showcases a McLaren 520s.

Tony Kanaan, a Brazilian racing driver renowned for his career in American open-wheel car racing, has an impressive track record, including victories in prestigious races like the 2013 Indianapolis 500 and the 2004 INDYCAR Series.

Kanaan is also involved in the esports world, having co-founded the esports team 'Texaco Racing by Tony Kanaan' in collaboration with Carlos Barreto. This iRacing team competes in various national and international championships, and Kanaan plans to host some of the team's races at his newly established racing center.

Indianapolis has been a notable hub for esports events in 2023, with various competitions and conventions taking place, including those hosted by Butler University and the NACE National Convention.

Kanaan's sim racing center is just one of the exciting developments in the sim racing world this year. Notably, ESL FACEIT Group launched a substantial €500,000 sim racing series in partnership with RENNSPORT, and UK-based esports organization Guild Esports secured funding to expand its presence in the sim racing scene.
