India's esports community responds to BGMI's comeback

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the India-specific version of the battle royale game PUBG: Battlegrounds, and its creator KRAFTON, have announced the game's impending return to the Indian market.
The game has been absent from Indian app stores for less than a year, according to the makers, who blame its absence on KRAFTON's connections to Chinese corporation Tencent.
"We are extremely thankful to the Indian authorities for allowing us to restart operations of BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA," said Hyunil Sohn, CEO of KRAFTON, in a statement (BGMI). We want to express our appreciation to the gaming community in India for their assistance and endurance over the past several months.
“We are excited to announce that BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA will be available for download soon and we cannot wait to welcome you back to our platform. We believe in the power of gaming to bring people together and create unforgettable experiences.”
The return to India is the outcome of KRAFTON's long-standing partnership with the Indian government, the developer claims.
The announcement follows a 10-month hiatus. After PUBG Mobile itself was prohibited in India, BGMI was first made available in 2021.
