Gibraltar admitted into European Esports Federation as an observer member
Posted : 05 June 2023
The European Esports Federation (EEF), a nonprofit organisation that seeks to develop a shared vision for esports in Europe, has formally admitted Gibraltar into its membership.
The area joins member organisations from nations including Germany, Denmark, and France as the EEF's 45th member. Prior to the federation's subsequent general meeting in December, when a vote to award Gibraltar full membership will take place, Gibraltar will serve as an observer member.
Gibraltar has advanced greatly in esports during the past 12 months. In January 2023, the region notable recognised esports as a sport. The Gibraltar Esports & Video Gaming Association was subsequently forced to change its status from a Leisure Association to a Sports Association.
Gibraltar has participated in events such as the Istanbul 2022 Global Esports Games and the Commonwealth Esports Championships before joining the EEF.
In 2020, 26 founding members—from national federations to European esports stakeholders—formed the European Esports Federation. Promoting esports as a respectable sport and leisure activity is the mission of EEF.
