Gamers First plans Austin, Texas headquarters for esports operations
Posted : 09 August 2023
Gamers First (G1), a North American esports organization, has unveiled its ambitious plans for a state-of-the-art headquarters facility in Austin, Texas. Spanning 25,500 square feet, this multifunctional hub will encompass studios, training areas, and an event space, reflecting G1's commitment to elevating its esports operations.
Situated in Austin's East Congress district, the facility is set to become the epicenter of G1's esports endeavors, as well as housing other ventures owned by G1's CEO and Co-Founder, Kenny Vaccaro. Known for his NFL background, Kenny Vaccaro co-founded G1, a prominent esports organization fielding competitive teams in Halo, Rocket League, and Trackmania, in addition to a diverse roster of content creators.
G1 operates under the umbrella of Vaccaro Enterprises, a holding company that recently expanded its portfolio by acquiring Evolve PCs, a U.S.-based custom computer manufacturer. In February 2023, they also acquired Women’s Car Ball, a Rocket League esports league dedicated to female players.
The reimagined headquarters, previously a warehouse, is designed with modularity in mind. The flexible layout allows for easy adaptation to suit the needs of different operating companies or specific events. For instance, spaces designed for G1's South By Southwest activations can be transformed for outdoor use.
While the exact cost of the facility remains undisclosed, G1 characterized the build-out as a 'multi-million dollar' endeavor. The new headquarters will accommodate Evolve PCs, Women’s Car Ball, as well as various media entities under the G1 umbrella.
The decision to invest in this facility comes in the wake of reports from Esports Insider in August 2023, suggesting that G1 had encountered issues regarding payments to staff working on its Women’s Car Ball league and prize money distribution to league teams. Subsequently, G1 has taken steps to address these concerns and settle outstanding payments.
Beyond its primary functions, the new facility will house a spacious office area, a player lounge, a speakeasy, a stage, a podcast studio, team offices, and co-working spaces. The comprehensive design aims to cater to diverse needs while fostering collaboration and innovation.
Anticipated for completion by Q3 2024, the facility is already underway in its construction phase. Kenny Vaccaro's Vaccaro Enterprises highlighted that the constituent companies will continue operating within the headquarters, further serving as a versatile event space for a range of activations and experiences.
