FURIA Withdraws from PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025, Imperial Fe Steps In

Posted : 04 February 2025

FURIA has withdrawn from the PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 tournament in Romania to focus on securing a U.S. visa for the upcoming BLAST.tv Austin Major in June. As a result, PGL has invited Imperial Fe, a women’s Counter-Strike 2 roster, to take FURIA’s place in the competition.

The tournament will feature 16 teams, including notable rosters such as MOUZ and Astralis, competing for a $1.25 million prize pool. Scheduled from February 14th to 23rd, the event follows closely after IEM Katowice, where Imperial Fe made history as the first women’s team to qualify.

Imperial Fe has gained recognition in the CS2 scene, having won two consecutive seasons of ESL Impact, the premier women’s CS2 league. Their recent participation in IEM Katowice has further solidified their reputation as a competitive team in the circuit.

Meanwhile, FURIA, which has been a dominant force in Counter-Strike esports for several years, continues to make headlines with its high-profile matches. Their recent showdown against NAVI at the BLAST Bounty Spring 2025 Closed Qualifier drew significant viewership, peaking at 490,000 spectators, according to Esports Charts.

FURIA has consistently competed at the highest level, boasting achievements such as winning the Elisa Masters Espoo 2023 and reaching the semi-finals at the 2022 IEM Major in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to its competitive success, the organization has expanded its presence in esports by establishing a training center in Brazil and launching its own gaming equipment brand, Fallen Gear.

However, despite their strong performances, FURIA has yet to officially qualify for the BLAST.tv Austin Major, with invites determined by Valve’s Ranking Standings on April 7th.

FURIA is not the only notable absence from PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025, as other top-tier teams have also opted out of the event. Team Spirit and G2 Esports, currently the two highest-ranked teams in Valve’s standings, have chosen not to participate for undisclosed reasons.

Their absence, along with FURIA’s withdrawal, significantly alters the competitive landscape of the tournament, providing opportunities for emerging teams like Imperial Fe to make an impact on the international stage.
