Óscar ‘mixwell’ Cañellas, a former professional player in both VALORANT and Counter-Strike, has launched his own esports organization called Otakar Esports. The organization aims to enter the VALORANT competitive scene with a focus on promoting Spanish players to the highest levels of competition, particularly in the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT). Mixwell expressed his goal to create a team that starts from the grassroots level, highlighting the lack of Spanish representation in top-tier VALORANT competitions as a key motivator for the venture.
The former G2 Esports player, now serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Otakar Esports, shared that his vision is to grow the Spanish esports scene and foster player development. While the team's initial focus is on VALORANT, Cañellas made it clear that there are no immediate plans to expand into other esports titles. The organization has already begun looking for coaching staff to support its ambitions.
Otakar Esports is being launched in collaboration with Red Bull, with Mixwell hinting at an official partnership that will see the brand featured on the team’s jerseys. This venture marks a new chapter for Mixwell, who has been a prominent figure in esports since his time with G2 Esports and Team Heretics, and was widely recognized for his success in both Counter-Strike and VALORANT. After retiring from competitive play in 2023, he transitioned to content creation before stepping away from Heretics in September 2024.
By founding Otakar Esports, Mixwell joins a growing trend of prominent streamers and content creators who have expanded into managing their own esports organizations. Other notable figures like Ibai Llanos and Kamel ‘Kameto’ Kebir have taken similar paths, using their influence to build teams. British League of Legends streamer Marc Robert ‘Caedrel’ Lamont also recently unveiled his esports team, Los Ratones, as part of this emerging trend.
