FIFAe partners with Saudi Arabian Gamers, increasing prize pool

FIFA's esports division, FIFAe, has formed a partnership with Saudi Arabian esports and gaming festival Gamers8. As a result, all three season-ending FIFAe competitions, including the FIFAe Club World Cup, FIFAe Nations Cup, and FIFAe World Cup, will be held at the event.
The prize pool for these competitions will increase from $1.2 million to $3 million. The FIFAe tournaments will be the final events under the EA Sports' FIFA series, as EA plans to rebrand its FIFA video games to EA Sports FC.
Saudi Arabia has a strong presence in FIFAe and FIFA esports, with two former world champions representing the country in previous tournaments. The Gamers8 festival in Riyadh features a range of esports tournaments, with a total prize pool of $45 million available.
FIFAe recently held a bootcamp to promote inclusivity in its competitive circuit, specifically focusing on female players.
However, the Gamers8 festival has faced criticism due to its association with the Saudi Arabian government. The event is organized by the Saudi Esports Festival, which is overseen by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Some esports teams, such as Moist Esports, have declined invitations to the event to protest Saudi Arabia's human rights record.
Romy Gai, Chief Business Officer at FIFA, expressed excitement about the partnership with Gamers8, highlighting the goal of building a platform for players to showcase their skills and engage with the FIFAe community.
Despite the upcoming events and collaborations, there are unresolved issues surrounding ownership and contract situations at Manchester United, adding challenges for manager Erik ten Hag as he prepares for pre-season training.
