ESI Events, the events arm of Esports Insider, has announced that ESG Gaming will return as the official not-for-profit partner for the ESI Film Festival Lisbon, scheduled for September 24th as part of ESI Lisbon. ESG Gaming’s involvement includes sponsoring a €6,000 (£5,000) cash prize pool for the event.
ESG Gaming, a non-profit organization dedicated to leveraging gaming and emerging technology for positive social impact, continues its support for the ESI Film Festival following the success of the inaugural event at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly in London in 2023.
The ESI Film Festival showcases short films that spotlight the individuals behind the screens, emphasizing the transformative potential of gaming and esports in people’s lives. It provides a platform for filmmakers to highlight compelling narratives within and around these communities.
Entries for the ESI Film Festival are open to the public and can be submitted by individuals, groups, companies, or institutions. A panel of industry experts will judge submissions based on criteria such as originality, creativity, cinematography, plot, and messaging. The submission deadline is July 17th, with detailed guidelines available on the festival’s website.
New to the 2024 edition is the introduction of a Best Student Film category alongside the main award for Best Film. Winners will have their films screened to a live audience comprising professionals from the esports, video game, and film industries during ESI Lisbon, a flagship B2B industry festival spanning September 23rd-25th.
Sam Cooke, Managing Director and co-founder of ESI, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming festival, noting the impressive submissions received last year and the addition of the student category for 2024. He highlighted the significance of ESG Gaming’s continued support in enabling a substantial prize pool for a festival that remains accessible and free to enter.
Lee Willows, Founder of ESG Gaming, reiterated the organization’s commitment to supporting grassroots esports initiatives and creatives within the gaming community. He praised last year’s submissions for their impactful storytelling and expressed anticipation for the 2024 entries, emphasizing the collaborative effort with Esports Insider to elevate both the festival and ESI Lisbon as a not-for-profit partner.
ESI Lisbon 2024 expects over 1,000 attendees from diverse sectors of the esports, video game, and creator economy industries. In addition to the ESI Film Festival, the event will feature The Clutch startup pitch competition and Esports Leaders, an exclusive gathering for senior esports decision-makers.
