ESL FACEIT Group has announced the launch of DreamHack Shanghai in 2025, marking the first time the renowned gaming festival will take place in China. The debut event will coincide with the Asian Champions League (ACL), organized by Hero Esports, creating a landmark weekend for esports in Shanghai. Both events promise a mix of high-profile competitions, guest influencers, and signature DreamHack features, including the expo floor, Artist Alley, and Community Playground.
DreamHack, known for its legacy in North America and Europe, continues its global expansion with this move into the Chinese market. The event follows the confirmation of DreamHack Dallas, scheduled for May 2025, showcasing ESL FACEIT Group’s ambition to solidify its presence in major gaming regions. China’s increasing focus on hosting esports events makes Shanghai an ideal location for DreamHack’s debut, following the successful hosting of competitions like Intel Extreme Masters and the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational in Chengdu last year.
The Asian Champions League (ACL) will also make its first appearance in 2025, held at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. Billed as the region’s most diverse and accessible multi-title esports tournament, the ACL will feature games such as Street Fighter, League of Legends, and PUBG. The combination of the ACL and DreamHack Shanghai is expected to elevate the esports experience in Asia, offering fans a wide-ranging celebration of gaming culture.
Jonny (Xinyi) Wang, ACL CEO and Co-founder of Hero Esports, emphasized the significance of pairing these events in Shanghai. Highlighting China’s vast gaming community and its role as a global gaming hub, Wang described the occasion as a unique opportunity for fans to connect, celebrate, and create lasting memories. With both events set to dominate Shanghai’s gaming landscape, 2025 is poised to be a pivotal year for esports in Asia.
