China has authorised Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard
Posted : 22 May 2023
China has approved Microsoft's takeover of game company Activision Blizzard, according to reports from GamesIndustry.biz, SeekingAlpha, and other publications.
In China, the merger has gotten "unconditional permission" after a national probe revealed no problems. More than 30 regulatory bodies, including China, have authorised the deal.
Early in 2022, the two businesses revealed that they had reached an agreement on a purchase price of $68.7 billion (£50.5 billion). However, because of the size of the purchase, other international regulators have started their own investigations, and the transaction is still pending.
Activision Blizzard and Microsoft both have huge and significant markets in China, so the businesses' management will undoubtedly be pleased that the merger has been approved there just a short time after receiving approval from the European Union.
The merger has been challenged in court by the US Federal Trade Commission and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) of the United Kingdom. Other noteworthy opponents of the agreement include the technology corporation Sony.
