In preparation for the Champions Chess Tour Finals 2023, Chess.com has joined forces with Lofi Girl Records, a YouTube channel and music label. Lofi Girl Records has curated a chess-inspired playlist, offering more than 20 original lofi tracks under the theme "chill beats to play chess to."
Lofi Girl, renowned for its 'lofi hip hop radio – beats to relax/study to' livestream with 13.6 million subscribers, features its character playing chess in the playlist's promotional video.
The playlist is available on various streaming platforms, and vinyl copies, including signed versions, are available for purchase, with the collaboration hinting at Lofi Girl's involvement in the official tournament broadcast of the Champions Chess Tour Finals 2023, scheduled from December 9th to 16th, featuring a prize pool of $500,000.
Chess.com CEO Erik Allebest expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting Lofi Girl's positive impact on focus during chess activities. The collaboration exemplifies chess's ability to attract sponsors from both traditional sports and esports, with notable partnerships including Displate and noblechairs.
This strategic move aligns with efforts to engage younger audiences, tapping into the popularity of Lofi, which has previously extended to esports with European organization Fnatic launching its own lofi album last year. The Champions Chess Tour Finals promises an exciting competition on the Chess.com platform, combining elements of traditional sports and esports in the dynamic world of chess.
