Spain's top-ranked player, Carlos Alcaraz, made an impressive start to his Wimbledon campaign with a comfortable victory over Jeremy Chardy, who was playing his final singles match before retiring.
The 20-year-old Alcaraz, who recently won the US Open, dominated the match and wrapped up a 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 win in under two hours on Court One.
Facing the 36-year-old Chardy, Alcaraz allowed his opponent to win only seven games throughout the match.
Chardy, who reached the last 16 of Wimbledon in 2014, had already announced that this tournament would mark the end of his singles career.
Reflecting on his performance, Alcaraz expressed satisfaction with his play and highlighted the challenging start his opponent had in the first set.
"I played really well, and Jeremy was in a bit of trouble at the beginning of the match," said Alcaraz.
He also expressed his joy in competing at Wimbledon, appreciating the support he received from the crowd.
