Busan Extends Partnership with SBXG to Boost Local Esports Development

Posted : 23 October 2024

The South Korean city of Busan has announced an extension of its partnership with SBXG, the esports division of 4BY4 and the parent company of BNK FearX, for a minimum of three years. This collaboration is designed to promote the growth of esports within the Busan metropolitan area, focusing on a variety of initiatives such as events, grassroots activations, and projects targeting students.

SBXG first teamed up with Busan Metropolitan City in 2021, and the partnership has since led to numerous successful activations and projects. The latest extension was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) involving Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency (BIPA), and SBXG, solidifying their commitment to enhancing the esports landscape in the region.

Sang-min Han, Vice-president of BIPA’s Busan Global Game Industry Promotion Center, shared on LinkedIn that the partnership will focus on attracting sponsors and partners to the city, which is South Korea’s second-largest. SBXG will continue to represent Busan in various esports leagues, and as part of this initiative, the company has relocated its headquarters to Busan. Additionally, they plan to recruit local talent and host various local events and activations.

SBXG is primarily recognized as the owner of BNK FearX, an esports organization with teams competing in several games, including a League of Legends franchise in the LCK and a roster in the South Korea League for Rainbow Six: Siege. Formerly known as Liiv Sandbox, FearX is just one of SBXG's ventures, which also includes subsidiaries such as BESPN, Mouse Potato, and LOLQ, all aimed at advancing the local gaming and esports sectors.
