BLAST has announced that the upcoming BLAST Premier Rivals event will now be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, instead of its originally planned location in Monterrey, Mexico. The tournament organiser cited "unforeseen logistical challenges" as the reason for the relocation but did not provide specific details. However, BLAST reassured fans that it intends to bring future events to Mexico, despite this sudden change.
Some in the esports community have speculated that the decision may have been influenced by scheduling conflicts, particularly with IEM Melbourne, which concludes on April 27th. This tight turnaround would have made it difficult for teams to travel from Australia to Mexico in time for the tournament.
While BLAST has not officially confirmed this as the reason, the last-minute nature of the change has sparked frustration among fans who had already made travel and accommodation arrangements for the Monterrey event.
The move is also expected to have economic consequences for Monterrey, as the tournament was projected to generate around $12.5 million (~£10 million) in revenue for the city.
Additionally, the relocation has disrupted BLAST’s collaboration with Latin American esports organisation Liga Ace, which was set to play a role in the event. The sudden venue switch has led to criticism from the community, with many expressing disappointment over the lack of an official apology or compensation for those affected.
