Apex Legends Global Series Year 4 expands to include China, increases prize pool, and restructures competitive regions

Posted : 07 October 2023

The Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Year 4 has exciting plans for 2024, featuring notable improvements and the addition of a new competitive region. The upcoming year will include three LAN events and boasts a substantial total prize pool of $4 million (~£3.3 million). Additionally, China will join the competitive scene, with two Chinese teams earning spots in the Split 1 Playoffs.

While the ALGS is expanding to accommodate new regions like China, it has decided to remove South America from the Pro League. South American teams, both professional and amateur, will participate in the South America Challenger Circuit, ultimately leading to the South America Regional Finals. The top-performing teams will advance to the Playoffs, and the team with the most Playoff Points from the region will secure a spot in the Championship. This decision aims to enhance the overall competitiveness of the ecosystem.

In terms of tournament structure, both the Split 1 and Split 2 Playoffs will include 40 teams each. This composition comprises two Chinese teams, two South American teams, and 36 teams from other regions. The Championship will also feature 40 teams, consisting of the highest-placed team from each region based on Playoff Points, joined by 26 teams with the most total Playoff Points across both Splits, and the top two teams from each region.

While specific details about the locations and dates of major LAN tournaments have not been revealed, the first pre-season qualifiers are set to kick off in October 2023. These changes and additions promise an exciting and competitive year for Apex Legends esports in 2024.
