Yucateco Boss promises state-of-the-art Boxing Gym in Lagos

Posted : 21 July 2024

The Chief Executive Officer of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, Omonlei Imadu, has pledged to build an ultra-modern boxing gymnasium in Lagos.

The boxing gym will be constructed at Teslim Balogun Stadium, following a visit to Lekan Fatodu, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC).

The meeting, which lasted several hours at the DG’s office, culminated with a visit to the site where the gym will be erected at the stadium.

Imadu was accompanied by the Technical Director of the Yucateco Boxing League, Babatunde Laguda, and other executives from the boxing organization.

Imadu stated that his passion for transforming the face of boxing in the country motivated his decision to build a gymnasium for the commission.

“I believe that the government alone cannot adequately fund sports, especially at the grassroots level.

“That’s why I want to invest my personal resources into the development of amateur boxing in the country.

“Let me assure you that this is not one of those pledges that won’t be fulfilled. I aim to complete this project in four months.

“We are putting the necessary measures in place immediately to kick-start the construction process,” Imadu said.

The Director-General of LSSC, Lekan Fatodu, praised the Yucateco CEO for his commitment to developing boxing in the country.

He noted that the commission is always open to collaborating with the organization when needed.

“We are aware of the significant investment Yucateco has made to support the development of boxing in Nigeria.

“The pledge to build a boxing gym at the stadium further reflects his unwavering commitment to the sport at the amateur level,” Fatodu said.

According to Fatodu, the stadium has long needed a boxing gymnasium to aid the training of boxers in the state.

He added that Imadu’s intervention would encourage more young people to take up the sport using the new facility.
