Tyson Fury's recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk has left him questioning his future in boxing, but experts believe the only major fight left for the Briton is an all-British showdown against Anthony Joshua. Fury, a former heavyweight world champion, was defeated by Usyk in a unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the bout 116-112.
This marked Fury's second consecutive defeat by Usyk, who holds the WBA, WBC, and WBO titles. Despite the setback, Fury refused to confirm whether he would retire, offering a cryptic response when asked about his future in the sport.
Eddie Hearn, promoter of Anthony Joshua, believes a "Battle of Britain" fight between Fury and Joshua would be the next logical step. Despite Joshua also coming off a loss, having been knocked out by Daniel Dubois in October, Hearn is confident the bout would still attract a massive crowd, particularly at Wembley.
Hearn emphasized that Fury’s performance in the loss to Usyk was not indicative of a fighter in decline, stating that Fury still showed potential but was simply outmatched by the Ukrainian champion.
Hearn further expressed his belief that a Fury vs. Joshua fight would be the biggest event in British boxing history, one that would draw immense attention. He also noted that despite Fury's recent defeat, he did not appear to be finished or past his prime.
According to Hearn, Fury is still potentially at the peak of his career, though he was unable to overcome Usyk. Hearn is eager to make the fight happen, possibly in Riyadh, where the Saudi Arabian boxing scene could help promote such a major event.
Following the fight, Fury was confident he had won, while his promoter, Frank Warren, expressed shock at the scoring. Despite being at a disadvantage in terms of weight and height, Fury struggled to land significant punches against Usyk, who demonstrated superior accuracy and technique.
Fury took to social media to thank his supporters, acknowledging the loss but vowing to move forward. "The fight's done now, it's in the past," Fury said, reflecting on the outcome and his readiness to focus on his family and future.
