Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk set to clash for undisputed heavyweight title in Saudi Arabia
Posted : 29 October 2023
In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk engaged in an intense face-off following Tyson Fury's split-decision victory in the "Battle of the Baddest" bout against Francis Ngannou. The thrilling confrontation has set the stage for a future showdown between Fury and Usyk to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
While rumors had circulated about a December 23 date for their clash, promoter Frank Warren clarified that this date is not feasible and emphasized the need for Fury to take a break before the fight.
Warren stated, "It will go ahead but it will not be on the 23rd," highlighting the impracticality of such a quick turnaround. He recognized Fury's demanding training camp and the need for the boxer to spend time with his family.
The fight is, however, confirmed, and the date will be announced in due course. The anticipated clash is expected to occur in early 2024, possibly in late January or February, with the final timing determined by Tyson Fury's readiness.
In the ring, Fury and Usyk exchanged words, with Fury expressing his desire for the fight to take place in Saudi Arabia under the patronage of Turki Al-Sheikh for the undisputed heavyweight championship. Usyk simply responded, "Let's go." While Fury was eager to fight immediately, he acknowledged that the details would be worked out by his management.
Fury holds the WBC title, while Usyk is the holder of the WBA, WBO, and IBF championship belts. This impending showdown between the two champions offers the prospect of crowning the first undisputed heavyweight champion since the establishment of the four-belt era (WBC, IBF, WBO, and WBA).
