Team Nigeria wrestlers complete medal haul at 2023 African Beach Games

Nigerian wrestlers at the 2023 African Beach Games have completed a medal haul of three gold and one bronze.
Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that the 2023 African Beach Games featuring Beach Wrestling was held in Hammamet, Tunisia.
Nigeria's ace wrestler, Blessing Oborududu had won the first gold on the sand for the first time at the 2nd African Beach Gamesc, while another Bayelsa State-born Commonwealth champion, Mercy Genesis also won gold, having won gold in May in the 1st African Beach Games in Hammamet, Tunisia.
Similarly, Esther Kolawale recorded third gold resulting in Nigeria as the African giant to be declared the team's title winner ahead of Senegal who finish second, while Algeria finished third to help Nigeria alongside South Africa.
The top team now earn the opportunity to compete in the upcoming Association of National Olympic Committee (ANOC) World Beach Games which will take place from August 4 to 12 in Bali, Indonesia.
Reacting to the victory, Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) on Saturday thumbed up the performance of Nigerian wrestlers at the 2023 African Beach Wrestling Games.
The NWF through its President, Daniel Igali commended the efforts of the country's wrestlers after clinching three gold medals in Beach wrestling at the African events.
NWF under the leadership of champion Daniel Igali has witnessed successes in various international tournaments.
Earlier in May 2023, Team Nigeria recorded nine gold, four silver and two bronze historic outing in the Senior African Wrestling championships in Hammamet, where Bayelsa born 34-year-old Blessing Oborodudu holds the record for the most gold medals, with 12.
In Tokyo, she became the first African woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final, making her one of the best among wrestlers who have wrestled on the mat.
The Wrestling Federation expressed joy at the achievements and dominance of Nigerian Wrestlers and hints for more ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Nigeria Wrestling Federation led by champion Daniel Igali commends the Federal Ministry of youth and sports development for the support towards the Wrestling Federation as it gets prepared for next Olympics.
NWF also appreciates the regular sponsorship of Bayelsa (Nigerian) Wrestlers to major events by the Bayelsa State Government led by Governor Douye Diri.
The Wrestling Federation deeply expressed gratitude to the magnanimity of the Bayelsa State Government towards the Federation while calling for more States and cooperate bodies to key into the brimming Wrestling Federation.
