Sandy Ryan to defend WBO Welterweight title against Terri Harper

Posted : 24 January 2024

In Matchroom Boxing's upcoming spring schedule, world champion Sandy Ryan is set to defend her WBO welterweight title against compatriot Terri Harper on March 23 in Sheffield.

The 30-year-old Ryan, hailing from Derby, seeks a second defense of her belt following a contentious split-decision draw in a unification bout against Jessica McCaskill in September.

Her opponent, Harper, 27, aims to achieve three-division champion status, holding the current WBA light-middleweight title and coming off a draw with Cecilia Braekhus in October.

Additionally, undefeated Rhiannon Dixon, aged 31, is scheduled to fight for her first world title in Manchester on April 13.

Trained by former world champion Anthony Crolla, Dixon will face Karen Elizabeth Carabajal for the WBO belt. Carabajal, an Argentine with one loss in 22 fights to pound-for-pound star Katie Taylor, provides a formidable challenge for Dixon in her quest for a world title in just her 10th outing as a boxer.

The Sheffield card at Utilita Arena will feature the highly-rated light-welterweight Dalton Smith against three-time world-title challenger Jose Zepeda.

Meanwhile, in the main event at Manchester's AO Arena, super-featherweight Jordan Gill, who secured a career-best win by stopping Michael Conlan in December, continues his pursuit of a world title shot against Zelfa Barrett. The spring schedule promises exciting matchups and significant opportunities for the featured boxers to make their mark in the world of professional boxing.
