Organizers of the first-ever Pan-African Amateur Boxing Championship, Yucateco Boxing Promotions, have announced Benin Republic as the host for the July edition of the bouts.
The championship, which debuted in Togo last month, continues to attract pugilists from across the continent after a successful outing in Lomé.
CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, stated that the organization is working closely with the Boxing Federation of Benin Republic to ensure they stage a splendid event in Cotonou this month.
"All hands are on deck. The technical committee had a virtual meeting yesterday with executives of the Benin Republic Boxing Federation, and we reached resolutions regarding logistics and technicalities."
"The inaugural bouts in Togo last month were an eye-opener for countries on the continent. Initially skeptical, they now see our commitment, with nearly ten countries expressing interest in joining the championship since the event in Lomé."
Imadu further revealed that the final round of bouts for the first quarter of the championship calendar will be hosted in Lagos in August 2024 after this month's event in Benin.
"Lagos will host the finale of this quarter. We are bringing the glitz and glamour home so our champions from the first phase of the championship can be properly celebrated before the world. It will be a life-changing experience for these boxers, and we hope to capture every moment with the Nigerian sports media."
The July edition of the Yucateco Pan-African Boxing Championship will take place from Friday, July 26th, to Sunday, July 28th, at the National Sports Gymnasium in Cotonou.
