Regis Prograis successfully defended his WBC junior welterweight title in his hometown, although he was disappointed with his performance.
He defeated Danielito Zorrilla by split decision, with two judges scoring in his favor and one in favor of Zorrilla. Prograis acknowledged that he didn't deliver his best performance and attributed it to the pressure of fighting in his hometown.
Zorrilla took the fight as a late replacement for Liam Paro. After the fight, Prograis discussed potential future opponents in the 140-pound division, including Bill Haney, Teofimo Lopez, and Gervonta Davis.
This was Prograis' first successful title defense, following his loss to Josh Taylor in 2019. Throughout the fight, Prograis dropped Zorrilla in the third round but struggled to maintain momentum as Zorrilla focused on surviving.
Although Prograis hit the mat three times, none were ruled as knockdowns. Prograis admitted that upon reviewing the first-round fall, it might have been a knockdown. The fight marked the return of a major championship fight to the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans after 23 years.
