Oleksandr Usyk defends WBC, IBF, WBA heavyweight titles against Dubois

Posted : 07 July 2023
Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning WBC, IBF, and WBA heavyweight champion from Ukraine, is set to defend his titles against Daniel Dubois on August 26 at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland, according to an announcement by Queensberry Promotions on Thursday.

The highly anticipated fight will coincide with Ukrainian Independence Day Weekend and will be broadcast on TNT Sports Box Office in the United Kingdom. However, no U.S. broadcaster has been announced yet.

Usyk's promoter, K2, secured the rights to the bout with a winning bid of $8.06 million in May, ensuring that the fight will take place as scheduled.

Usyk, with an undefeated record of 20-0 and 13 knockouts, while negotiations for a fight with Fury fell through earlier this year, Usyk turned to his WBA mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois.

Dubois, a 25-year-old prospect from London, suffered a fracture to his left orbital in a 10th-round knockout loss to Joe Joyce in November 2020. Since then, he has rebounded with four consecutive wins, including a third-round TKO victory over Kevin Lerena in December.

Despite his recent success, Dubois is considered the underdog in the upcoming bout, with odds of 7-1 against defeating Usyk.

Usyk, 36, as a former undisputed cruiserweight champion and Olympic gold medalist, he has established himself as a formidable force in the boxing world. Usyk claimed the heavyweight titles from Anthony Joshua in two consecutive fights, winning both by decision.

Outside of boxing, Usyk demonstrated his commitment to his homeland by joining a territorial defense battalion in Ukraine following Russia's invasion last year.
