The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) insisted that the suspended Nigerian boxer, Cynthia Ogunsemilore, is guilty as charged after she failed to prove her innocence.
According to the NOC spokesperson, Tony Neziaya, "She was alleged to have taken drugs, and she was not able to prove otherwise."
Neziaya dismissed Ogunsemilore’s claims about the test procedures that might have affected the outcome of the results while she was explaining her innocence.
"Those testimonies should have been presented to the IOC, and she did not submit them there. It is when they are caught that they start blaming procedures. Her signature is already on the result, which means she gave consent to the procedures followed," Tony said.
He also confirmed that the embattled boxer left the Games Village on Tuesday as directed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“She left the Games Village yesterday. She will be heading back to Nigeria and has to leave France,” Tony said.
The International Testing Agency (ITA) revealed that Ogunsemilore tested positive for furosemide, a prohibited diuretic, in an out-of-competition doping control on Thursday, and Ogunsemilore was subsequently suspended from the games.
