The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Dr. Daniel Igali, has said that he is positive of a good outing in the forthcoming World Wrestling Championship in Belgrade, Serbia, from Sept. 16 to 22.
According to Promise Okotoko, Media Assistant to the NWF, Champion Igali gave the hint during an unscheduled visit to the camp of the wrestlers at the Dynamite Theatre of Wrestling, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, ahead of the first pre-olympic qualifier.
Igali noted that he was elated with the level of training so far, expressing optimism that Nigerian wrestlers would distinguish themselves at the world championship. The Olympic gold medalist explained that with the achievements recorded in wrestling in the last 10 years, he was targeting a medal sweep in Serbia, stating that no sport had done better than wrestling in Nigeria.
"The records in the wrestling federation speak volumes for the federation, and they are leaving nothing to chance to produce a five-star performance in Belgrade, Serbia."
"The delegation will consist of six wrestlers, two coaches, one medical personnel, and two officials," he said.
Igali then used the medium to congratulate the new Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, on his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
"We look forward to a good working relationship with the new minister because his antecedents are quite encouraging as a grassroots man," he said.
Igali, who doubles as the commissioner for youth and sports development in Bayelsa State, commended the magnanimous role of Governor Douye and his duty officer, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for supporting their camping in Yenagoa.
He noted that the Bayelsa State Government has been generous to the Wrestling Federation by financially supporting its projects.
