The Nigeria Wrestling Federation has mourned the passing of a young wrestler, John Jerry, who hailed from Akwa Ibom state.
In a statement, the Wrestling Federation expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of John Jerry, who lost his life when their boat capsized on the way back from Peremabiri after participating in a traditional wrestling tournament with fellow wrestlers.
Young John Jerry was brought into the Wrestling Federation by the Federation's President, Daniel Igali, due to his outstanding performance during training at the wrestling center in Yenagoa.
The Wrestling Federation grieves over the incident, which occurred around Onyoma/Oporoma in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Similarly, the Wrestling Federation extends condolences to its President, Daniel Igali, for the passing of his uncle Gellesthorpe.
Gellesthorpe, the sole surviving uncle from Daniel Igali's mother's side, passed away at the age of 90.
Gellesthorpe played a significant role in shaping the upbringing of the world and Olympic champion from the ages of 3 to 9 when his parents were abroad.
The Nigeria Wrestling Federation, in its entirety, expresses deep sadness over the loss of both individuals and prays for God Almighty to grant their respective families the strength to endure.
Meanwhile, the NWF noted that the burial arrangements for the departed will be communicated as authorized by the family.
