Nigeria wins six gold medals in Day One of 12th African Armwrestling Championship

Team Nigeria Armwrestling squad, in Day One of the 12th African Armwrestling Championship, won a total number of six gold medals, five silver medals and four bronze medals.
The wins give a strong indication that the team is in Accra, Ghana for serious business of defending their African title won in Lagos last year at the 11th edition of the African Championship.
Nigeria's bright start also sent signals to other top contenders especially the host country, Ghana, that the defending champions are out to qualify for as many events as possible for the Africa Games and the world championship.
Nigeria opened the floodgate of gold medals, when Olubisi Oyewusi grabbed Team Nigeria's first gold in the Women’s 90kg class.
Team Nigeria's second gold came from Zannu Mausi in the 65kg women category after an exceptional performance.
Zannu Mausi went on to win Nigeria's third gold medal in the 60kg Youth category to confirm that Nigeria is in Ghana for serious business.
Sarah Mathew in the Women’s 70kg class overwhelmed her opponent to win Nigeria's fourth gold medal.
Daniel Chukwuemeka made it gold number five for Nigeria in the men's +100kg Masters category.
Oluwatobiloba Adedokun won another gold in the 90kg Youth Men’s category with his excellent performance, which made it gold number six for Nigeria.
Team Nigeria also won five silver medals in the opening day of action at the 12th Africa Armwrestling Championship.
The silver medals came in through Chika Blessing in the 55kg Women’s class where she narrowly lost her final fight.
Nigeria's second silver medal came through Blessing Ogungbure in the 70kg Women’s class.
Olusegun Ajao grabbed Nigeria's third silver medal in the 55kg men's category, while Idowu Yinusa made it silver medal number four in the men's 65kg category.
Ndidi Winifred, in the 80kg Women’s class, made it silver medal number five for Nigeria.
Nigeria's four bronze medals came from Blessing Ogungbure in the Youth +65kg class, Simon Ekwok in the 75kg men, Oluwatobi Adedotun in the 100kg men.
The 12th African Armwrestling Championship continues tomorrow in Accra, Ghana as Team Nigeria continue in their adventure to win the Africans title outside the shores of Nigeria.
Team Nigeria are two-times winners of the African Championship.
The team is led to the African Championship by the Nigeria Armwrestling President, Engineer Samuel Jackson, who is the past president of the African federation.
